This story is about the four winds; Boreas the cold north wind, Notus the south wind, Zepher the west wind, and Eurus the east wind. Together these Gods were very destructive. If all the winds blew at the same time it would be way too much wind and could be devastating. Together they would form massive storms like tornados and tsunami's. The damage would be broken trees, home devastation, and could throwing large objects through the air.
Since together they became too destructive they had to stop. Zeus ordered them to live in a closed cave and then assigned Aeolus to watch after them. Every once in awhile Neptune and/or another God would call upon Aeolus to let out one of the winds. Aeolus would let out the winds by poking a hole in the cave with his spear. The wind would blow out the hole and in the direction of the requesting God.
They would blow and blow until the god asked them to stop. Most of the time they were called to make it hard for some one to sail or told to stop to make one not to sail like what happend in the Trojan War. when the king of greece, Agamemnon, was told to sacrifice his dauther or the winds would not blow becase he did not pray to artemis, the godesses of the hunt, when he killed a stag and when thier job was done the the hole filled up and the winds sat waiting for someon to call them.
